Established in 2024, A Child’s Hope Orphanage embarked on a heartfelt journey to reshape the destinies of orphaned children in Lira, Uganda. Our first venture is a commitment to fill the critical void of necessary learning materials, from pens and paper to calculators and educational aids. Yet, our purpose extends beyond education. We are dedicated to providing a nurturing haven and a supportive community for orphaned children facing severe poverty. Our vision illuminates a path to a promising future for every child in need across Lira and the entirety of Uganda.

At A Child’s Hope Orphanage, teamwork is at the heart of our mission. Our dedicated, led by our founders, is committed to creating a nurturing haven for our children. While our founders focus on establishing the foundation’s pillars through registration, networking, and administration, our office manager in Uganda, Betty, is the linchpin on the ground. She is instrumental in securing facilities, welcoming orphaned children, and managing day-to-day operations. Assisted by four devoted staff members , Betty ensures that every child receives the love, care, and the support they need to thrive. Together, we work tirelessly to provide a safe, loving home where every child can blossom.

Cofounder: Michael Mahin
Michael’s journey in business and philanthropy spans 30 years and multiple continents, yet his heart remains rooted in the mission of A Child’s Hope Orphanage. As a cofounder, his knack for building bridges and fostering unity has been pivotal in nurturing the lives of Uganda’s orphaned children.
His leadership roles from NARI’s Sponsorship Chair to his contributions in the non-profit sector, showcase his dedication to lifting communities. Michael’s actions speak volumes, affirming his belief that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish. At A Child’s Hope he is not just a cofounder; he is a beacon of change guiding the orphanage towards a future where every child’s potential can be realized.
About the Founder: Lakeri Kikonde
In the midst of Uganda’s civil unrest, our founder’s heart was touched by the resilience of children in Adwilla. Raised among those who offered refuge to the displaced, they learned that kindness is the strongest foundation for a community. This compassion followed them to the United States, where the dream of creating a safe haven for orphans began to take shape.
Today, as the president of A Child’s Hope Orphanage, they embody the spirit of service, transforming their vision into a nurturing home for many. Balancing academic pursuits in business administration with the joys of parenthood, our founder is a beacon of hope, advocating tirelessly for children’s rights and welfare. A Child’s Hope Orphanage isn’t just a shelter; it’s a place where young dreams are nurtured, and the promise of a brighter future is a reality.
